Marissa said that  “Of course commercial companies are going to put cheap chemicals in their products, why? To save money. They are not going to spend tons of money on their products so it will actually be good for you…”

Having worked for consumer goods companies for many many years we know it’s not quite that simple. Yes, companies will use cheap ingredients when possible. They would be foolish not to save money where they can. But all the companies we’ve worked for would GLADLY spend more money on a formula if it provides a differentiated benefit and solves an unmet consumer need. Why? Because a) it gives them an advantage in the market place and b) they can charge MORE for such products. Therefore they’ll actually end up making more money.

As a consumer, the trick is to know when you’re being charged more for the same old crap and when there’s something out there that’s really worth a few more of your hard earned dollars. Our job is to help you be able to tell the difference between the two.
